Red lips, sun-kissed skin and summer hats. My desire for that warm summer weather is bigger than ever. Right now it is raining outside. Such dull weather. But I must say that my mood is fantastic! Last Saturday I went to the sample sale of Vanilia; one of my favourite Dutch brands. All the pieces of clothing were 75% or more reduction! Crazy.
The last couple of weeks have been extremely boring, because I had to learn all day for tests at school. But, happily I also did some great activities. So, my days consisted mostly of: learning, learning and learning. Very boring… But, two weeks ago I visited the Dutch ‘fotomuseum’ in Rotterdam. It was an exhibition with the most amazing pictures by the best photographer of the 19th century: Horst P. Horst. He was one of the biggest fashion photographers of his age and he did lots of fashion collaborations with a magazine we all know: Vogue Paris. For this prestigious magazine he photographed people as Coco Chanel and Salvador Dalí … His iconic photography style still has a big impact on the fashion and design of today. Horst is mostly famous, because of his way of using lighting in his pictures. You see his pictures evolving throughout the years, but there is always some interesting use of lightning in his pictures. For me it’s the most normal business of life to just stare at pictures for hours, because there is such amazing style depicted. I am also very much a sixties girl. The big hats, A-line skirts, over-the-top make up… Sometimes I wonder why I wasn’t born in that age. I love the style from back-then.
Oke, so while shooting this post I kept this amazing photography of Horst P. Horst in the back of my head. All these hats and red lips and bold minimalism! I want to show you how to style a red lip my way. I used the exclusive collection lipstick by L’Oréal Paris. This is the ‘Blake Lively colour’. She btw is a great woman and also one of the woman that very much inspires me. When styling the red lip there is no need to go over the top with your clothing. I mean, the red colour is already quite bold, so I often combine it with easy colours, such as grey, white or beige. A hat always gives your outfit something extra: that special vibe.
I hope this pictures inspire you to also rock that red lip! And I really recommend you to look up more about the Horst P. Horst exhibition in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Or, at least, google his name and his works. He has an unknown talent for the visual art.
